Annex Cat Rescue

Volunteer and foster caregiver

Volunteering with Annex Cat Rescue is something my mom and I care deeply about. Together, we foster cats and give them a safe place to stay while they prepare for their future homes. We also help trap and rescue stray cats in our community so they can receive care and to help prevent the population from continuing to grow.

Right now, we’re fostering Juno, a playful kitten who had his back left leg amputated after he was found injured. He doesn’t let it slow him down, he loves running through tunnels, climbing cat trees and playing with the other cats. He can be shy around people, so it’s been rewarding to give him the time and space to feel comfortable.

My mom and I also helped raise over $2,500 for Annex Cat Rescue through the Toronto Waterfront Marathon, where my mom ran the 5K. It meant a lot to us to support an organization that helps cats like Juno receive care and find homes.

Fostering and helping cats in our community have taught me patience and shown me how much of a difference care and consistency can make. Seeing a cat become more comfortable and confident over time is one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
